Afcons Casts Delhi-Meerut RRTS Bhaisali Station’s Base Slab

Afcons Infrastructure last night cast the first base slab for Bhaisali Station on the 5.68 km underground Package 8 of the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut (RRTS) project.

NCRTC will service Bhaisali Station in Meerut with Alstom’s 3-coach MRTS trains (see: Meerut Metro) out of Modipuram Depot. The longer 6-coach Alstom semi high-speed trains will pass through its station box.

Afcons was awarded Package 8’s Rs. 1529.10 crore contract in November 2020 with a 1310 day (3.6 year) deadline. Their scope includes constructing twin tunnels from Brahampuri DN Ramp to Begumpul UP Ramp with 3 underground stations at Meerut Central, Bhaisali & Begumpul by cut & cover method.

Per the tunneling plan, Afcons will deploy two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) from Bhaisali towards Meerut Central Station and 1 TBM towards Begumpul Station.

Terratec had completed factory acceptance tests (FAT) for Afcons’ 3 new 7.51m diameter Earth Pressure Balance machines (S88, S89 and S90) in Q4 2021. They’ve been nicknamed Sudarshan 8.1, Sudarshan 8.2, and Sudarshan 8.3.

The last snap shows the station’s perforated head-wall from where one of the TBMs will be lined up and commissioned. The project’s Terratec TBMs with a diameter of 7.51m will be slightly larger than typical metro TBMs (ranging 6.45m to 6.68m) to allow the line’s Alstom semi high-speed & MRTS trains to operate with sufficient clearance.
