6 Bidders for Agra Metro Line-2’s AGCC-07 Elevated Contract

Six firms today submitted bids for civil construction contract AGCC07 of Agra Metro Phase 1 project’s 15.09 km Line-2 which will connect Agra Cantonment and Kalindi Vihar via 14 stations.

This mega package by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) includes the construction of the entire line’s viaduct, 14 elevated stations, 530m viaduct to Line-2’s Kalindi Vihar Depot, and interestingly a 2.61 km viaduct from north of Sadar Bazar metro station to Line-1’s PAC Depot built by Lisha Engineers as part of Package AGCC-03.

Its scope includes the entirety of Package AGCC-06 (Agra Cantt – Sanjay Place) which was abruptly scrapped by UPMRC in October 2023 and absorbed into Package AGCC-07’s scope.

At Agra College Station users will be able to interchange and switch over to the city’s 14.25 km Line-1 (Sikandra – Taj East Gate) where an underground station is under construction by Afcons – SAM India JV as part of Package AGCC-02.

UPMRC had invited bids for AGCC-07’s construction in December 2023 with a Rs. 1529.29 crore estimate and tight 24 month deadline. Technical bids were opened today.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

This contract will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through a €450 million loan approved in December 2021.

At 15.09 km, this is currently the second longest civil package in India’s metro history after Mumbai Metro Line-12’s 22.17 km long Package CA-240 which was won by Gawar Constructions in February 2024.

This is the 5th civil package of Agra Metro’s Phase 1 project to enter the technical bid evaluation stage. The only tender notice pending now is for Line-2’s Kalindi Vihar Depot in north-east Agra which might not be built due to the 2.61 km inter-line viaduct from Line-2 to PAC Depot. Time will tell.
