KCC Buildcon and CDS Infra Projects on Friday emerged as the lowest bidders for constructing the first 3 packages of the roughly 600 km Delhi – Amritsar – Katra (DAK) Expressway after National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) opened financial bids.

This 4-lane greenfield project with a proposed RoW of 90m starts at KMP Expressway north-west of Delhi, and will be expandable to 8 lanes with provision of service roads in the future.

Its Detailed Project Report (DPR) and alignment studies were prepared by Feedback Infrastructure. Within Punjab, a 99 km spur will be constructed from km 306 to form half a ring around Amritsar and connect with its airport.

NHAI invited bids for these first 3 packages, all within Haryana, in September 2020 with a 2 year deadline. Technical bids were opened on December.

Dilip Buildcon yesterday announced it had been awarded two contracts for the Bangalore – Chennai Expressway’s Phase 1 Packages 1 & 2 despite their bids being about 15% higher than NHAI’s estimates. If that’s anything to go by, then KCC and CDS should also be awarded contracts in the coming weeks. NHAI has a much larger appetite than I had originally thought.

The entire DAK Expressway project has been divided into roughly 20 packages and bidding has started for at least 10 of them. This weekend I’m going to create a dedicated information page with a status of each and link it on this page. If someone reading this already has a list, please leave a comment or drop me an email here. That would really help!
