7 construction firms have submitted bids to build the western-most underground section of the 23.622 km Silver Line after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today opened technical bids for Package DC-08.

This 6.116 km Aerocity – Kishangarh section of the Delhi Metro Phase 4 project comprises of 6.11 km twin tunnels, to be built by tunnel boring machines (TBMs), and 4 stations at Aerocity, Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj and Kishangarh.

Its construction will be financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with whom the Government of India reached an agreement and signed a Rs 8,390 crore ODA loan in March towards financing 44 civil & system packages, some of which have already been awarded.

DMRC invited tenders in April 2021 with a 42 month deadline and an unknown estimate. They’ve previously indicated this section to cost Rs. 1349.37 crore, but I’m not entirely sure if that’s still the current value.

Bidders:

  • Afcons Infrastructure
  • Gulermak Agir Sanayi Insaat ve Taahhut A.S
  • ITD Cementation
  • J Kumar Infraprojects (JKIL)
  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
  • Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. (STEC)
  • Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL)

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

DC-08’s design details such as crossover locations, TBM launching shafts and Aerocity Station’s design, in relation to the upcoming Delhi – Alwar RRTS Line, can be viewed here.

With this exciting development, technical bid opening for 3 more high value civil tenders are pending: 2 for the Silver Line and 1 for the Magenta Line’s 28.9 km Janakpuri West-R K Ashram extension:
