Workers from Sterling & Wilson – GSC Construction Company JV last week began installing the 750V Third Rail electrification system for Kanpur Metro Phase 1’s Priority Corridor between IIT-Kanpur – Motijheel.
SWPL – GSC JV was awarded Phase 1’s traction and electrification contract in November 2020 by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) with a contract value of Rs. 419.14 crore. Work last week started at Line-1’s Polytechnic Depot which is fast nearing completion by K.S.M. Bashir Mohammad & Sons – see some snaps here and here.

Kanpur Metro’s 8.728 km elevated Priority Corridor is rapidly under construction by Afcons Infrastructure with UPMRC planning to start trial runs using Alstom MOVIA train-sets in November 2021.
Here are some snaps of how the first train currently looks like at Alstom’s Savli plant. Its final design or color-scheme has not yet been revealed, and I’m super curious to see how it’ll turn out.
