Larsen & Toubro and SP Singla Constructions Pvt. Ltd. on Monday were the only two firms that submitted pre-qualification applications for the construction of a new 12.2 km bridge connecting Palashbari – Sualkuchi in Assam.

This 4 lane extradosed PSC bridge over the Brahmaputra river, just west of Guwahati, will be executed by Assam’s Public Works Road Department (PWRD).

The project’s foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2023 with a total estimated cost of Rs. 3197.20 crores. 80% of its cost will be financed by the New Development Bank (NDB) which approved a USD 300 million loan in July 2019.

PWRD invited pre-qualification applications in March 2023 with a Rs. 2600 crore estimate for the bridge, approach roads and other miscellaneous civil construction work.

Brief Scope: Pre Qualification Application for construction of Extra Dosed PSC Bridge over river Brahmaputra connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi including viaduct, approaches, river training works etc. on EPC mode

Here are a few design renderings shared by Assam’s CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Twitter back in April 2023:

Here’s a short video posted posted by the PM’s YouTube account which shows a rough alignment of the bridge at the 1:42 mark:

Both applications will now be evaluated. Firms that qualify will in the coming months be issued Request for Proposal (RfP) documents to participate in the next round of the bidding process.
