6 Bidders for Delhi-Katra Expressway’s Pathankot Link Road

6 firms have submitted bids for the civil construction work of the 12.345 km Pathankot Link Road project to connect with the under construction 650 km Delhi – Amritsar – Katra (DAK) Expressway.

This new 6 lane access-controlled greenfield highway will connect Gobindsar village on the Delhi – Katra Expressway’s Package 14 (under construction by MEIL) with Talwara Jattan Village on NH-44 in Gurdaspur District.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had invited tenders for its construction in December 2022 with a Rs. 344.88 crore estimate and 730 day (2 year) deadline. Technical bids were opened on Wednesday.

Scope: Construction of four/six lane Greenfield connectivity from Talwara Jattan Village on NH-44 to Gobindsar village on Delhi – Amritsar – Katra Expressway from km 0.000 to km 12.345 (Pathankot Link Road) in the State of Punjab on EPC Mode under BMP

Here’s a grainy route map via the Forest Clearance’s website. This new link will have a trumpet interchange with Delhi-Katra Expressway at Gobindsar (see top-left corner).

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for its construction.

This link road will connect with NH-44 about 15 km south of Pathankot city. Looking at its northwest-south-east orientation, I imagine its main purpose is to serve as a bypass for routing central Punjab’s north-bound traffic from NH-44 away from Pathankot city to improve the utility of the Delhi-Katra Expressway.
