JMC Projects on Friday night erected their first 27.90m U-Girder in Kidwai Nagar for Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project’s Package KNPCC-07 connecting Transport Nagar Ramp – Naubasta Station.

This feat for 23.785 km Line-1’s second & final 5.427 km elevated package was recorded between Pier 56-57 with a girder weighing 164 MT. The first pier cap was erected at Pier 56 right before 2022 ended.

This section’s Rs. 514.61 crore civil construction contract was awarded to JMC Projects in June 2022 by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). It’s located on the eastern-end of Line-1 and consists of 5 elevated stations at Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baudh Nagar and Naubasta.

Such launches will now become a regular nightly affair in the city. By back of the hand calculations, I estimate approximately 390 girders will be launched for this section’s superstructure.

JMC recorded this milestone in just 7 months since the award of contract – a new record across India for metro projects. For comparison, on Line-1’s Priority Corridor (Package KNPCC-02R), Afcons Infrastructure had reached this milestone in August 2020 – 11 months from the award of contract in September 2019. You could argue that the disruption from Covid-19 had a role to play though.
