Besides winning Surat Metro’s electrification contract, Siemens on Monday was also declared as the lowest bidder for the 750 V DC Third Rail electrification system (EP-2) of the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had invited tenders for this systems contract in January 2022 financed by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) with an unknown estimate. Technical bids were opened in June.

Like Surat, GMRC’s budgeted estimate for Ahmedabad remains unknown to me, so I can’t provide an assessment on the chances of a contract getting awarded. We’ll have to wait and watch to see how this plays out.
