Besides winning Surat Metro’s electrification contract, Siemens on Monday was also declared as the lowest bidder for the 750 V DC Third Rail electrification system (EP-2) of the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project.
The city’s new 28.254 km Phase 2 will see the north-south Red Line getting extended by 22.838 km from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir via 20 new stations with a 5.416 km spur from GNLU to GIFT City with 2 new stations.
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had invited tenders for this systems contract in January 2022 financed by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) with an unknown estimate. Technical bids were opened in June.

Like Surat, GMRC’s budgeted estimate for Ahmedabad remains unknown to me, so I can’t provide an assessment on the chances of a contract getting awarded. We’ll have to wait and watch to see how this plays out.
Some recent cool images of Phase 2’s construction posted on Twitter by Index of Gujarat can be viewed here (Dholakuva Circle in Gandhinagar), over here (CH-2 Circle in Gandhinagar) and over here (Sabarmati Bridge & GIFT City).
