HCC-KEC Casts Chennai Metro Line-5’s 1st Pier at Kovilambakkam

Hindustan Construction Company – KEC International JV last week cast their first pier in Kovilambakkam for Chennai Metro Phase 2 project’s 47 km Line-5 connecting Madhavaram – Sholinganallur.

The consortium was awarded the project’s 11.61 km Package C5-ECV-03 (Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur) in November 2021 with a contract value of Rs. 1122 crore and deadline of November 2024 (36 months).

The team began test piling works right before 2021 ended between Echangadu and Kovilambakkam stations, and then began piling work in March 2022.

The first of 436 piers for the viaduct, P-672, stands 11.25 meters tall.

Besides constructing the viaduct from from Chainage 33710 m to 45320m in South Chennai, their scope includes 11 elevated Stations at Madipakkam, Kilkattalai, Echangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam Koot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcot.
