Linxon Begins Third Rail Installation for Kolkata Metro’s Line-3
[ad_1]
Linxon India earlier this month began installing the 750 V Third Rail electrification system for Kolkata Metro’s 15.215 km Line-3 which will connect Joka and Esplanade via 12 stations.
Linxon was awarded Line-3’s traction and electrification contract in 2019 by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) for its 7 km elevated Phase 1 between Joka and Taratala. The scope of that contract (Package 1) also included the power supply for Line-3’s under construction Joka Depot and the 5.4 km New Garia (Kavi Subhash) – Hemanta Mukherjee section of Line-6 (Airport – New Garia).

The Third Rail being installed is made of steel-aluminum composite to extend its longevity and reduce maintenance. The team plans to complete installation work in Q4 this year.

Back in April, KEC – Siemens JV beat Larsen & Toubro to win the 750 V DC third rail traction system’s Package 3 and 4 of Line-3 (Taratala-Mominpur section) and Line-6 (Hemendra Mukherjee – Airport section).
Track installation works by Rahee Infratech are well underway on Line-3’s elevated section and nearing completion. I’m trying to source some images for a post on that right now.
