Ghaziabad – Jewar Airport RRTS Route Finalized via Greater Noida

[ad_1]

Uttar Pradesh’s state government earlier this month finalized a new RapidX regional rapid transit system (RRTS) line linking Ghaziabad – Jewar Airport via Greater Noida West, Surajpur and Pari Chowk, per Hindustan Times.

This 72 km new semi high-speed line with 12 elevated stations by National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will have its northern terminal at the existing Ghaziabad RRTS Station which was built as part of the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS line.

The line’s southern terminal will be built at Jewar International Airport, which is being developed by Flughafen Zürich AG and under construction by Tata Projects Ltd (TPL).

Details are a little sketchy, but Jewar Airport – Ghaziabad RRTS line is planned to be developed in 2 phases or stages:

  • Phase 1: Ghaziabad – Kasna with 7 new stations at Ghaziabad South, Greater Noida West Sector 4, Greater Noida West Sector 2, Knowledge Park V, Surajpur, Pari Chowk and Ecotech 6
  • Phase 2: Kasna – Jewar Airport with 4 new stations at Dankaur, YEIDA North Sector 18, YEIDA Central Sector 21 and Jewar Airport

Here’s my purely fictitious take on how its alignment may look like based on the stations announced.

Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authrority (YEIDA) has been keen on connecting Jewar Airport with Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan, the under construction transit hub where 3 RRTS lines from Meerut, Alwar and Panipat will meet. Per Times of India, YEIDA’s CEO didn’t appear too happy when NCRTC in October proposed connecting the airport with Ghaziabad instead.

With the route now finalized, I’ve created a basic information page for the project which I’ll be updating as the project progresses. Check it out here – Ghaziabad – Jewar RRTS – Information & Status

Next steps for NCRTC include preparing the line’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) which will give us a better idea of the line’s exact route, station locations, depot, ridership projections etc.

Jewar Airport in the future will also serve as a stop on the proposed 865 km Delhi – Varanasi Bullet Train project by India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation. Ghaziabad RRTS Station on the Meerut line was interestingly designed with 4 platforms and built roughly 3 times wider than the other stations with futuristic planning to easily accommodate another line without affecting existing operations.

To give you an idea of how wide it really is, check out this snap when construction was underway last year by KEC – CCECC JV over GT Road and the Delhi Metro’s Red Line:
