Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL) has announced the completion of track-work on both up and down lines of 27.9 km Bhopal Metro Phase 1 project‘s Priority Corridor between Subhash Nagar Station and Rani Kamlapati Railway Station.

This 3.6 km elevated section of 14.99 km Bhopal Metro Orange Line was built by Dilip Buildcon (Package BH-01). Ballastless standard gauge tracks on top of its viaduct were installed by Larsen & Toubro as part of Package BH-07‘s 238.52 crore contract which was awarded in November 2022.

Track installation work had started on May 15, 2023. Per MPMRCL, Bhopal Metro’s advanced track design ensures smooth commutes, efficient drainage, high load capacity, and speeds up to 90 km/hour. An in-depth article posted by them on Medium can be viewed here.

Bhopal Metro’s Priority Corridor includes 5 stations at Subhash Nagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Board Office Chauraha (erst. DB mall), MP Nagar and Rani Kamalapati – all under construction by URC Constructions as part of Package BH-02.

A cool drone video showing the progress of each station earlier this month can be viewed here on X (Twitter).

MPMRCL had started trial runs on the up-line tracks of this section using one of their new Alstom MOVIA train-sets on October 1, 2023.

Unlike NCRTC working on Delhi – Meerut RRTS or UPMRC working on Agra Metro, they haven’t announced – and rightly so – any grandiose plans to operationalize any part of Bhopal Metro or Indore Metro prior to the 2024 General Elections.

I’m currently looking at a Q4 2024 opening. Here’s a view of how the Inspection Bay of Subhash Nagar Depot, under construction by KEC – Sam India JV as part of Package BH-06, currently looks like:
