NCC Ltd. this weekend celebrated launching the final box segment for constructing Reach-2’s viaduct on Pune Metro’s Aqua Line (14.667 km Line-2).

Construction for the 7.15 km long Reach 2 (Vanaz – Civil Court) of 31.254 km Pune Metro Phase 1 project was awarded to NCC in August 2017. The first segment was launched on Paud Road in March 2018 using the underslung construction method with a mobile crane.

The final box segment was cast by NCC in April-end utilizing a casting yard in Tathawade from where I estimate approximately 2600 segments were cast. In addition, the team cast and launched approximately 40 I-girders and a 48m steel girder span.

T’was a rainy night!

Reach 2’s 4.35 km Priority Section between Vanaz – Garware College was just inaugurated by PM Modi in March. This final segment was launched to finish the viaduct between Garware College and Civil Court.

As shared earlier, each segment typically has a length of 3m, top width of 8.5m, bottom width of 3.5m, and weighs approximately 37 MT.

Like the segments cast in Nagpur, segments in Pune have also been integrated and cast along with a parapet wall (unique in Indian metros) to cut down construction time, transportation time and the purchase cost of separate casting molds.
