Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. – KEC International Consortium on early Friday morning launched the first set of U-girders for Chennai Metro Line-4’s 7.945 km Package C4-ECV-02 connecting Porur – Poonamallee Bypass.

These girders weighing 164 MT are 27.90 meters long and have been placed on top of piers P293 – P294 near Ramchandra Hospital Station’s site.

Elevated C4-ECV-02 section of the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project was awarded to HCC-KEC in May 2021 with a Rs 1,147 crore contract value and 36 month deadline.

The firm had cast their first girder at Poonamallee Casting Yard in January 2022 from where I estimate approximately 600 girders, ranging from 18m to 28m, will be cast from four casting bays.
