CEG Test House through a subcontract from Afcons – SAM India Consortium last week began geotechnical soil investigation work for Agra Metro’s 7.93 km underground section (AGCC-02) connecting RBS College Ramp and Taj Mahal Ramp.

This exciting development comes just weeks after Afcons – SAM JV was awarded this section’s Rs. 1819.79 crore contract by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) with a 48 month deadline.

An investigation along this route of the 29.40 km Agra Metro Phase 1 project had previously been subcontracted in 2020 by UPMRC. This new round of testing with standard penetration tests (SPT) at approximately 65 boreholes is being done to revalidate those findings to help properly design and construct the line’s twin tunnels and stations.

This 7.93 km package of the 14.25 km Line-1 will connect RBS College Ramp and Taj Mahal Ramp via twin tunnels through 7 stations at Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Jama Masjid, SN Medical College, Agra College, Raja ki Mandi and RBS College.

Some snaps shot by follower Alok Shah between Agra Fort and Taj Mahal stations:

Afcons – SAM will be required to deploy a minimum of four tunnel boring machines (TBMs). A supplier to my knowledge has not yet been finalized.
