Lisha Wins Agra Metro PAC Depot’s Construction Contract

That was quick! Lisha Engineers today emerged as the lowest bidder to build the PAC Depot (Package AGCC-03) of Agra Metro’s 14.25 km Line-1, after officials from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRCL) opened financial bids today afternoon.

This train maintenance depot of the 29.40 km Agra Metro Phase 1 project will be built on a 16 hectare land parcel near the Taj Mahal Station (formerly known as Purani Mandi) and house the system’s Bombardier 3-coach rolling stock.

UPMRC had invited tenders for this package on August 6, 2020 with an estimate of Rs 132 crore and completion period of 18 months. They opened technical bids on September 29 and took just 9 days for technical bid evaluation in which 3 bidders qualified for the opening of their financial bid.

Scope: Civil, PEB and E&M works for construction of depot cum workshop, including O&M quarters & structural, architectural, plumbing, external development, VAC, firefighting, etc. at PAC Land Depot for corridor-1 of Agra Metro

The completion of technical bid evaluation in just 9 days is easily a new record of sorts in India for large civil contracts. Prior to this, RVNL took just 17 days (July 29 to August 14) to evaluate bids for Kolkata Metro Line-3’s retender.

If no issues arise during financial bid evaluation, then Lisha Engineers will be issued a Letter of Award in the coming weeks to complete all civil work in 18 months.

Earlier this week, UPMRC received three bids – from Afcons Infra, Sam India and URCC – for constructing Agra Metro’s first section (Package AGCC-01) connecting Taj East Gate and Taj Mahal Ramp through 3 stations. If the speed of the depot’s bidding is anything to go by, then the first section’s bids could very well be opened in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
