KMV Wins Belagavi Airport New Terminal’s Construction Contract

[ad_1]

KMV Projects on Friday was declared as the lowest bidder for the civil construction work of a new terminal building at Belagavi Airport, also known as Belgaum Airport, in Karnataka.

Belagavi Airport’s existing domestic terminal by Airports Authority of India (AAI) has a built-up area of 3,600 sq.m and is capable of handling 300 peak-hour passengers. Its apron can handle 6 narrow-body aircrafts (eg. B737, A320).

The new terminal equipped with 4 aerobridges will boost the airport’s handling capacity to 2400 peak hour passengers (1200 arrival pax + 1200 departure pax). After it becomes operational, the existing terminal will be repurposed to manage arrivals. Per AAI’s consultant Landrum and Brown, this will enable the airport to handle a traffic demand of 2.0 million passengers per annum (mppa) up to 2037.

AAI had invited tenders for the project’s civil construction contract in November 2023 with a Rs. 265.04 crore estimate and 2 year completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in December 2023 to reveal 7 bidders.

Financial Bid Values

Firm Bid (Rs. Crore)
KMV Projects 220.08
CS Construction Company 221.46
Harsh Constructions 224.03
Girdhari Lal Constructions 229.30
Renaatus Projects 239.91
KPC Projects 243.38
BG Shirke Construction Technology 277.64

AAI’s Brief Scope: Construction of New Domestic Terminal Building and miscellaneous works at Belagavi Airport

KMV Projects’ bid of Rs. 220.08 crore was well below AAI’s estimate of Rs. Rs. 265.04 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period.

As shared in the past, I haven’t seen any design renderings of the new terminal building – either online or in tender documents. Per AAI, the building architecture will have a local context with reference to its geography, landmarks, culture, art and architecture.

Here’s a schematic of the airport’s masterplan prepared by Design Accord Consultants via AAI’s tender documents:

With this development, I expect basic ground work to start in Q2 2024 and full-fledged construction work to start in Q3 2024.

AAI has a couple open tenders for the construction of new terminals which I’m actively tracking. Here’s a list with the current technical bid opening date:

  • Darbhanga Airport – February 1, 2024
  • Varanasi Airport – February 2, 2024
  • Agra Airport – February 2, 2024
  • Hisar Airport – February 13, 2024
