Dholera Airport: Yashnand Awarded Terminal’s Construction Contract

Yashnand Engineers and Contractors on Monday was awarded a Rs. 333 crore construction contract for Dholera International Airport‘s new terminal building, ATC tower and cargo building by Dholera International Airport Company Ltd. (DIACL).

This new greenfield airport in Dholera, located south-west of Ahmedabad, will be capable of handling 1.5 million passengers per year after the completion of its Phase 1 in 2026. It will ultimately be able to handle 50 million passengers per year after its final phase – see project information.

The contract to Yashnand comes with a tight 18 month construction deadline.

The project’s owner DIACL is a joint-venture of Airports Authority of India (AAI), Government of Gujarat (GoG) and National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) holding equity in the ratio of 51:33:16.

DIACL had invited tenders for the terminal building’s contract in September 2023 with a Rs. 351.62 crore estimate and 545 day (1.5 year) completion deadline. They received 6 bids in November, and Yashnand was declared as the lowest bidder when financial bids were opened in December.

AAI’s Brief Scope: Development of New Greenfield Airport at Dholera, Ahmedabad, Gujarat Phase1 SH Detailed Designing, Engineering, Procurement and Construction of New Integrated Passenger Terminal Building, ATC Tower Cum Technical Block, Cargo Complex, ESS etc.

Construction work is already underway on the airport’s supporting infrastructure which includes a 3200m runway, taxiways, apron, perimeter road etc. by Varaha Infra.

With the contract squared away, I expect the project’s basic ground work to start by the end of Q1 2024 and full-fledged construction work in Q2 2024.
