Kanpur Metro’s TBM Tatya Starts 2nd Drive from Chunniganj
Gulermak – Sam India Builtwell JV last Friday recommissioned tunnel boring machine S92 at Kanpur Metro Phase 1 Package KNPCC-05’s Chunniganj Station.
Nicknamed Tatya after Tatya Tope, this refurbished 6.52m diameter Terratec Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine had recorded its first tunnel breakthrough at Nayaganj Station in January 2023 after building a 1025m long tunnel from Bada Chauraha Station.
The machine has now been relaunched for its 748m second drive from Chunniganj Station towards Naveen Market Station which Gulermak – Sam India JV hopes to complete in June 2023.
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had awarded Gulermak – Sam India JV with 3.62 km Package KNPCC-05 civil construction’s contract in March 2021.
Chasing a 3 year deadline, Gulermak – Sam will be constructing 8 tunnels and 4 stations at Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj, each 215m long.
Besides this, Gulermak – Sam India JV last week also completed pouring first-stage invert concrete inside the up-line tunnel between Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj stations to facilitate track-work by Larsen & Toubro (Package KNPAGT-3).
This 1025m tunnel was built and completed by TBM S93 (Nana) in December 2022.
