Texmaco Rail and Engineering last week completed casting the 1st track crossover for Bangalore Metro’s 19.143 km Yellow Line (Reach-5) which will connect RV Road – Bommasandra through 16 elevated stations.

The crossover is located between pier numbers 268-271 in between Hongasandra Station (formerly Oxford Station) Station and Kudlu Gate Station (formerly Muneshwara Nagar Station).

The crossovers and turnouts will enable the system’s BEML (and in the future CRRC if their contract is not terminated) trains to guide from one track line to another when this line opens up, which I reckon will not happen before Q4 2023.

Texmaco’s scope for this line’s track-work includes 20 turnouts (10 crossovers) of 1in9 type and 7 turnouts (3 crossovers & 1 turnout) of 1in7 type.

The 1st crossover lies on Reach-5’s Package-2 of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project. Its viaduct was completed by ITD Cementation in April 2021 – see images of the last segment getting launched here.

A proposal to extend this line to Hosur, TN by approximately 20.5 km was approved by Karnataka’s government last week. This sets the ball rolling for its feasibility study and eventually Detailed Project Report (DPR) to be created which depends on the Tamil Nadu government. Whether it gets included in Phase 3 plans or not remains to be seen. Still early days!
