ITD Begins Work on Chennai Metro Line-4’s Underground Section

ITD Cementation has officially started pre-construction work at Marina Beach for Chennai Metro Line-4’s 10 km underground section connecting Power House Ramp – Light House Station.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) had awarded ITD with the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project’s civil contracts for Packages UG-01 and UG-02 in January 2022 with a combined contract value of Rs. 3743.24 crore and 48 month deadline.

The firm has since mobilized men and machinery and started geotechnical soil investigation work to revalidate previous findings to help properly design and construct the line’s twin tunnels and stations.

This post deals with 5.15 km Package UG-01 (Bharathidasan Road Station to Light House) for which barricades and a geotechnical investigation rig was spotted near Light House Station’s site at Marina Beach.

This section includes 5 underground stations. ITD’s scope includes the construction of 4 of them at Bharathidasan Road, Alwarpet, Kutchery Road and Light House. Construction of Thirumayilai Station (interchange with Line-3) will be carried out through Line-3’s Package UG-04 which is being re-tendered right now.
