CMRS Inspects Kolkata Metro Line-2’s Sealdah Station & Tunnels

[ad_1]

Md. Latief Khan – the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) from the North-East Frontier Railway last week conducted a 2-day final safety inspection of Kolkata Metro Line-2’s 2.1 km Phoolbagan – Sealdah section.

This leg of the 16.34 km Green Line (East-West line) is entirely underground and in the coming weeks will become the 3rd section of the line to become commercially operational.

The CMRS led a 3 member team and inspected everything you can think of – the section’s tunnels, tunnel ventilation system (TVS), rails/tracks, third rail, elevators, escalators, fire fighting system, Hitachi-STS signaling & train-control system, control room and passenger facilities at Sealdah Station.

Approvals from the CMRS are typically conditional in nature and take half a week to come through, so we’ll have to wait and see what conditions are laid out for Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) to begin operations.

After this section is approved and becomes operational, Line-2 will become 9.1 km long (Sector V – Sealdah) with a one-way end-to-end ticket costing just Rs. 20, which is quite cheap. An inauguration date is yet to be formally announced, but I hear they’re targeting Pahela Baishakh (April 15). Stay tuned!
