Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. (STEC) on Friday morning received their first of four tunnel boring machines at Anand Vihar Station to construct the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS project’s twin tunnels.

STEC was awarded a contentious contract for the project’s 5.6 km Package 4 in December 2020 to build four tunnels between New Ashok Nagar DN Ramp – Anand Vihar – Sahibabad UP Ramp.

The team had completed factory acceptance tests (FAT) for this 7.5m diameter earth pressure balance machine, nicknamed Sudarshan 4.1, in September 2021 at their facility in Shanghai, China.

The team began lowering D-wall cages for TBM launch shafts on either side of the upcoming Anand Vihar RRTS Station in June 2021. From here two TBMs (Sudarshan 4.1 & 4.2) will be launched towards Khichripur to connect with Afcons Infra’s Package 6 and another 2 machines (Sudarshan 4.3 & 4.4) northwards towards Sahibabad to connect with KEC-CCECC JV’s Package 1.
