GR Infraprojects and Krishna Constructions on Wednesday emerged as the lowest bidders for the 154.8 km Amritsar – Bathinda Expressway’s construction contract after National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) opened financial bids.

This 6 lane access-controlled highway (NH-754A) forms the northern part of the 1256 km Amritsar – Jamnagar Economic Corridor (NH-754 / EC-3). It was earlier planned as a 196 km brownfield upgrade of NH-54, but changed to a greenfield alignment in 2020.

NHAI invited bids for its 3 packages back in January 2021 – each with a 2 year construction deadline. Technical bids were opened in June to reveal 13 bidders had submitted a total of 34 bids.

GRIL and Krishna’s lowest bids were 13.72%, 9.39% and 8.48% respectively higher than NHAI’s budgeted estimate, which I believe is within NHAI’s acceptable limits. Following possible negotiations, contracts can be expected to be awarded in the coming weeks with ground work starting as soon as October.

North of Bathinda, an interchange will be built near Rampura Phul to connect with the upcoming 75.5 km Ludhiana – Bathinda Expressway (NH-754AD) shown in red color above. Technical bids for that project’s Package 1 were opened in early July to reveal 13 bidders, while technical bids for Package 2 are currently planned to be opened on August 3. Stayed tuned…
