  • Experience: Where required, experience must be acquired after completing the requisite educational qualification. Internships, training, or research experience during studies do not count.
  • Valid Degrees/Diplomas: Degrees or diplomas from Open and Distance Learning programs are not permitted for engineering, except for B.Tech degrees/diplomas from IGNOU (enrolled up to 2009-10) as per the Supreme Court order.
  • Documentation: Candidates must produce original certificates (mark sheets, degrees, experience certificates) during document verification, proving qualifications by January 1, 2026.

Candidates must be:

  • A citizen of India, OR
  • A subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin from specified countries with the intent to settle permanently in India (certificate of eligibility required).

Exam Details of SSC Junior Engineer

The SSC Junior Engineer Examination consists of two computer-based exams:

  • Paper-I: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (50 marks), and General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical, 100 marks). Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer.
  • Paper II: General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical, 300 marks). Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates). Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer.

Candidates must attempt the General Engineering part corresponding to their educational stream (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical).
