L&T Wins Chennai Metro Line 3 & 5’s OHE & RSS Electrification Work

Results for another couple Chennai Metro Phase 2 system tenders are now known!
Back in February and March, Larsen & Toubro emerged as the lowest bidder for 2 separate contracts dealing with Chennai Metro Line-3 and Line-5’s electrification system (OHE, RSS, ASS & SCADA).
Both these under construction lines of Chennai Metro’s 118.9 km Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT (45.813 km Line-3) and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (47 km Line-5) with a mix of elevated & underground stations.
These 2 electrification contracts deal with the northern portion of each line: Line-3’s 25 km Madhavaram Milk Colony – Sholinganallur section and Line-5’s 23 km Madhavaram Milk Colony – CMBT section and their common Madhavaram Depot.
Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) had invited tenders for both contracts in October 2021 with unknown estimates and 2350 day (6.44 year) completion deadlines. Technical bids were opened in October 2022 to reveal 6 bidders for the OHE contract and 3 bidders for the RSS, ASS and SCADA contract.

CMRL’s estimates are unknown to me, and given that these haven’t been awarded so far makes me believe negotiations are underway for contract finalization.
Back in January, Linxon India was issued a Letter of Award (LOA) for the electrification contract for both lines’ southern section. Their scope includes Line-3’s 20 km Sholinganallur – SIPCOT 2 section and Line-5’s 24 km CMBT – Sholinganallur section.
